These lines describe Senior Benefacio as he is stranded in deep space:
The changes his body was going through, also,
heightened the sense of distance in time and space he felt from other humans,
from his old life. His skin was taut over his bones like it had been stretched
by some machine. When he took the stardrive suit off as he rested on a planet,
his body was all sticks and knobs. His knees and elbows protruded out from his
legs and arms like misplaced interruptions of his long, thin, narrow limbs. But
all along, despite the lost weight and the fluctuating vital signs, he felt
fine. Better than fine.
